Good afternoon Resisting Hate,

Lisa is doing a great job with Hater of the Day but I wanted to touch base with you all this weekend about what Tommy Robinson is currently up to. I have written a piece for the site and included some of the excellent parodies of his ridiculous promo video.

We have had a lot of laughs at this video -especially the one where they take the duct tape off to reveal Hitler moustaches!

But there is a serious side to Robinson's hate campaign. He is mobilising people to go to Whitehall on Sunday 6 May to kick up a big fuss about not being able to say what he likes about minority groups in this country.

This isn't free speech. It isn't free speech to talk about forced sterilisation and genocide. It is hate speech and it creates a climate where people feel they can yell abuse at people on public transport for the colour of their skin or rip a hijab off a lady's head because they feel they have some right to violence toward her based on her faith.

Only this morning I was sent a report from a UK mosque about how overnight some idiot had put bacon on their door handle. This is what Robinson's 'free speech' will result in. More and more people abused for what and who they are and empowered bigots and racists feeling they are invincible and therefore justified in spouting their bile.

There are many counter protests planned (please do send us all the details to publish if you are involved in any) and if anyone local to London can get there your presence will be valued.

Hate speech is not free speech and it never will be.
